7 questions about Ibiza to Dorothée Meilichzon
When did you first come to Ibiza? What was your first impression of the island?
I came for the first time at the end of 2012 or very early 2013 to visit the site of the future Experimental beach.
I arrived with a lot of preconceptions but when I discovered Cap des Falco I immediately fell in love with the island.
What are your favorite places on the island?
The list is long: Es Vedra fascinates me, the Salines beach, Sa Trinxa, the Woomoon party in Cova Santa, Es Xarcu, Benirras, Hostal La Torre, Giri Café, St Joan, Portinatx, the Pacha and of course the Experimental beach 🙂
How do you integrate the logic of sustainable development in your work as an architect?
How would you describe Ibiza to someone who has never heard of it?
I’m not trying to convince anyone.
I understand that some people love it and others hate it.
For me it’s paradise. I have fun, I rest, I love the spirit of the island, without judgment, festive sometimes, and at the same time very contemplative.
How does Ibiza inspire your work, in terms of materials, color choices, lighting, etc.?
For the design of the Montesol Hotel, we started with the bohemian, creative spirit of Ibiza. Patchwork headboards, a mixture of fabrics, zelliges, and very designed furniture. We wanted to remind the open-mindedness of the island, but also it’s light, its creativity.
Finally, we used more “cosmic” symbols: the moon, the sun, and the colors of Ayurveda according to the personalities Vata, Pitta, Kapha.
Have you traveled to another destination that you found particularly advanced on ecotourism and that you would like to recommend to other travelers?
The Northern countries are ahead of us I think. In Latin countries, we still have a long way to go.
Do you have any architect or artist who inspires you in your work?
Not one, a thousand
